Children's Discovery Museum

The striking 52,000 square foot purple building, designed by Mexico City-based architect Ricardo Legorreta, signals the purpose of Children's Discovery Museum to serve the needs of children, families and schools as a center for learning and discovery. Encompassing the broad themes of community, connections and creativity, exhibits invite self-directed, open-ended explorations, while programs provide facilitated, focused, and sustained interactions. Exhibit galleries are fully wheelchair-accessible and offer multi-sensory, layered experiences for children of varying developmental stages, interests and backgrounds.

  • Parking Info

    Parking is available in the city-owned lots on Woz Way and around the Museum. The parking lots that surround the Museum charge variable rates based on events scheduled in the downtown area, and CDM has no control over the daily rate. Handicapped parking is available in the Museum's loading zone, adjacent to Woz Way. County transit bus lines and Light Rail trains stop near the Museum.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, experiment with your voice, body, and creativity in a variety of short 20-minute improvisation activities led by trained Museum staff.       09/01/09- Ongoing	Art Loft Children's Discovery Museum Art Loft Presented by Children's Discovery Museum at Children's Discovery Museum September 1, 2009 - Ongoing This 900 square foot space at the top of the stairs was designed to offer quality visual art activities that children are not likely to experience elsewhere. Using found man-made and natural objects, and traditional art-making materials and tools in unique ways, children can explore their ideas and develop new skills.

We encourage a wide variety of exploration through the Paint Wall, art/sensory activities and Wonder Baskets. These early art experiences emphasize the exciting process of experimenting rather than creating an end product.

      10/10/06- Ongoing	Storytime in the Wonder Cabinet Children's Discovery Museum Storytime in the Wonder Cabinet Presented by Children's Discovery Museum at Children's Discovery Museum October 10, 2006 - Ongoing Research shows that reading books and having regular conversations with children -- even long before they can speak -- makes them better thinkers, better communicators and, eventually, better readers. Learn the joy of reading, singing and playing with language in a group setting during storytimes with trained staff who adapt the activities to the age ranges and attention spans of the children in each group.

From the end of the summer heat to October’s cool hints of winter, we will celebrate different gardening wonders every afternoon. Activities will change daily: we might be creating art using real seeds, planting fall bulbs, or measuring pumpkins—large and small! Or we could be tasting the fruits of fall, including melons, apples, and other healthy snacks. Come explore!
