Folk, Bluegrass & Great Harmonies
April 29, 2005
Add Review/CommentPerhaps best known to Bay Area folk enthusiasts for her group guitar classes at Gryphon Strings in Palo Alto, Carol McComb's talent as a folksinger and songwriter has not been a secret over the years. At 19 she had already recorded an album for Elektra Records with Kathy Larisch, Kathy and Carol, which has recently been re-released. In her early career, she toured with Mimi FariƱa and share the stage with such luminaries as James Taylor, Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger. The years since Carol's Elektra debut have brought maturity to her clear voice and guitar. Her lilting melodies make her songs soar. Direct and beautiful, elegant, gutsy or spunky, Carol McComb is at ease in a range of music that covers gentle love songs, classic country and bluegrass, swing and bluesy country, and difficult subjects like growing old, child abuse, Alzheimer's disease, and homelessness. She is a songwriter's songwriter. Her songs have been recorded by Bill Staines, Laurie Lewis, the Good Ol' Persons and others.
